Here is a more detailed view of the new lighthouse.  Cape Spear is the eastern most point in North America.  During World War II the Americans built an underground fort at Cape Spear just below this lighthouses location.  The soldiers here never saw action, but probably wish they did.  Duty here was supposedly boring, cold, and damp.  <--Previous  Next-->  Index
