This picture was taken in Placentia, on the other side of the Avalon peninsula.  This was the French capitol of Newfoundland until 1762 when the French and English settled the question of territorial ownership in the New World.  This was kind of a pretty church at least, and a bit unusual looking for Newfoundland.  I don't know how old it is, but it looks like churches I have seen in Quebec.  Maybe it was French influenced.
