FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 6-13-98

US Rep. Cynthia McKinney from Georgia is a very effective writer/sponsor/cosponsor/advocate of progressive and humanitarian legislation in the Congress. She sponsored the Arms Transfer Code of Conduct legislation which passed the House in 1997 and aims to prevent sale of US weapons to dictators. She is an active member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Progressive Caucus. She introduced Proportional Voting legislation, which is a much-needed reform to provide more democratic representation for all of the people. She recently introduced a bill to prevent sending military assistance to Indonesia until free and fair elections have been held there. She has an excellent record on environmental issues, women/children's issues and international issues. For all of the above and much, much more Cythia McKinney has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
