What we really need is an LCC (Limited Capitalism and Corruption) society to minimize the choking effects of greedy oppression while maximizing compassion and individual opportunity. We need to lessen the overriding power of the super rich to control and demean the rest of us and we need to simultaneously increase opportunities for those who have little capital and much compassion. We need to eliminate taxes altogether for the poor and lower middle class and have an income tax that is progressive for other individuals (10-50%) and flat (10%) for business (with no loopholes whatsoever). We should have two taxes only: an income tax and a high sales tax on products that endanger people and the environment (such as tobacco, alcohol, guns, gasoline, fatty foods). We need free education through college for all who want formal education but can't afford it. We need health care insurance and health care for everyone. We need these clear and progressive rules of the market to replace the grossly corrupt, grossly complicated and grossly unfair rules of the market that now exist. With these reforms in place, the need for rebellion against injustice in America will have largely vanished.
BUT, none of the above can happen without stringent and effective campaign finance and lobbying reform so this reform should be step #1 in moving toward a better society. Today, we have the robber barons controlling Congress again. We need effective campaign finance reform so that legislators will do the will of the people, not the will of their robber-baron puppetmasters. Fair and well-crafted campaign finance reform will change politics from a cesspool of greed and corruption to a noble enterprise benefiting all of us. We seem to be lying helpless and prostate against corruption. We need to rise now and strike corruption dead forever.
The triple crown of a real democracy is public campaign finance, proportional representation and creative/efficient corporate regulation.
