FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 10-7-2006

Sister Joan Chittister is the founder and executive director of Benetvision, author of 30 books, columnist for National Catholic Reporter, International Lecturer and a member of the International Committee for the Peace Council. She has had numerous other positions in the past. She is active in numerous peace and justice organizations. She has won numerous honors and awards. She is fully aware of world problems like oil, nationalism, economic imperialism, global terrorism, Neanderthal militarism, anti-Americanism, war, fundamentalism, religious bigotry, crusades and slaughter in the name of religion. She thinks the war in Iraq is an abomination. She is a firm disbeliever in dogmatism that is counter to science or other realities. Unlike the Bushies she remembers and assists the poor, remembers and assists those who need justice, remembers and assists those without a living wage, remembers and assists the starving, is a peacemaker instead of a warmonger, does not believe in preemptive war. She believes that women can fill any religious position anywhere as well as men and proves it with her life's work. For pushing the Catholic Church towards ordination of women and for doing everything else she can to impove Catholic and other religions, Sister Joan Chittister has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
