Eugen Drewermann is the German dissident theologian and best-selling theology writer in Europe. He also works as a psychotherapist with the clergy. Time Magazine hailed him as a new Martin Luther. In more than 70 books he urged the Vatican to end the psychological and spiritual suffering inflicted on Catholics by the rigidity of traditional teachings on abortion, divorce, homosexuality and celibacy. Drewermann's 1989 book The Cleric, preceding the U.S. sex abuse scandles, exposed the devastating effects of the Catholic traditional clergy ideal. Drewermann was forbidden to work as a Catholic, left the Church on his 65th birthday and now works as a writer, talk show guest and lecturer in Germany, the rest of Europe and the world. He was the host of a call-in radio program in Berlin. He says both sides of the terror war are guilty and that the U.S. should stop trying to bomb peace and democracy into the Middle East as it is a failed technique both morally and practically. For bringing the highest quality of decency and rationality to the world of religious practise, Eugen Drewermann has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
