FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 8-26-2006

Anna Diggs Taylor is Chief Judge of U.S. District Court in Eastern Michigan. She struck down Bush's domestic spying program for constitutional reasons based on an excellent detailed case presented by the American Civil Liberties Union and on her own meticulous research of the facts. She was the first black female federal district judge in the U.S. 6th Circuit (Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee). She is extremely smart and extremely qualified in constitutional matters. If her ruling is overturned on appeal it would be a severe blow to our constitutional democratic freedoms. The National Security Agency's program of warrentless wiretapping is a clear violation of the Constitution's Bill of Rights and is a threat to the survival of democracy because it puts too much unwarrented power in the hands of the White House. It shows that the current presidency is a nightmare of greedy dominion. For demonstrating that it is possible to preserve freedom, justice and democracy from fascistic leadership, Chief Judge Anna Diggs Taylor has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
