Robert Pape is Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago and he specializes in international security affairs. He is the author of Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism and numerous other publications. His commentary has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, New Republic, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times and Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. He has been on Nightline, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News and National Public Radio. He knows how suicide terrorism works and how it can be increased/decreased. Suicide terrorism can be based on religious fundamentalism or on secular fundamentalism or on combinations of these two factors. The Palestinians got their idea of the suicide vest from the Tamil Tigers, a secular group in Sri Lanka. Suicide-terrorist attacks are aimed primarily at "democracies" who are occupying their homelands with military/civilian forces. So the best way for the Bush/British/Israeli administrations to reduce terrorism to a manageable level is to withdraw all of their forces from Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, etc. For bringing truth to those obsessed with military/financial conquest, Robert Pape has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
