Lewis Lapham is the editor of Harper's Magazine; the writer of Gag Rule: On the Suppression of Dissent and the Stifling of Democracy, of numerous books of essays, of a monthly essay for Harper's and of numerous articles for numerous other magazines/newspapers. He has lectured at numerous leading universities and is a frequent guest on TV and talk radio. He has done TV documentaries in the USA and England. His excellent essay The Case for Impeachment (March 2006 Harper's) tells why the majority of the existing congress and presidency represents those rich that are so frightened of democracy that they will pay any price to prevent US from having one. This results in illegal wars which cause our fighters to commit mass murder and be killed/maimed in the process. The process also creates the terrorism that we are supposed to be protected from. The Bushies are creating the very terrorism that we are supposed to be fighting against. This allows them to restrict the very freedoms that we are supposed to be fighting for. The Bushies are creating fascism. For a lifetime of truth-telling and for legitimatizing impeachment which can create a real democracy, Lewis Lapham has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
