FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 2-11-2006

Rose Ann DeMoro is Executive Director of the California Nurses Association (CNA). She presided over a tripling of the CNA membership in 12 years when many other unions were shrinking. She was the most important single factor responsible for Governor Schwarzenegger losing all of his beloved right-wing measures which was linked to his rapid drop in approval ratings. CNA fought back against making the rich richer and the poor poorer with less security. Many workers outside CNA joined in the battle including police, firefighters and teachers. DeMoro became Schwarzenegger's worst nightmare. The nurse's airplane buzzed wealthy guests at the governor's gated mansion, flew over Wall Street and flew a banner when he was in Chicago: "Don't Be Big Business' Bully." TV news cameras were covering crowds of angry workers. A California court ruled that Schwarzenegger broke the law. 5000 booing protestors showed up for an Arnold Schwarzenegger fundraiser. Hollywood guild members attended the Nurse's convention to give them a big boost.
