Elouise Cobell is Executive Director of the Native American Community Development Corporation. She served as Chair for the Blackfeet National Bank. She worked diligently on the Individual Indian Monies Trust Correction and Recovery Project. She received the 1997 Genius Grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation's Fellowship Program. She serves/served on numerous boards. She served 13 years as Treasurer for the Blackfeet Indian Nation. She is active in local agricultural and environmental issues. She received the 2002 International Women's Forum Award for Women Who Make a Difference. She is working diligently to collect the $176 billion of Indian trust money lost, looted and mismanaged by the U.S. government. In the extended winter of 1883-84, one in every four Blackfeet died of starvation and disease because of white greed, incompetance, barbed wire, illegal grazing and other persecution. Elouise's lawsuit is monetarily the largest class-action lawsuit ever launched. Justice long delayed ain't cheap. For struggling mightily to wring justice for natives from a federal government controlled by greedy CEOs and other assholes, Elouise Cobell has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
