DeForest Soaries was the first Chairman of the Election Assistance Commission created by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to help states enact voting reforms. He resigned after it became clear that the Bush administration did not want to have any real reforms created because to do so would make it impossible for Bush and others like him to win elections that would be completely free from fraud and other vote rigging. The primary technique used by the Bushies to kill reform was to starve election reform by giving inadequate funds to do the job of election reform properly - the same technique which caused New Orleans to vanish with many lost lives. Dr. Soaries has received numerous awards for his leadership and community service and was recognized by the New Jersey Legislature for his religious and community leadership. For trying to reform our electoral system in the face of lack of funds and lack of support from the White House and for his excellent community service, DeForest Soaries has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
