Nicholas D. Kristof is an op-ed columnist for the New York Times. He was an Oregon boy, a Harvard man and an Oxford University Rhodes Scholar. He has studied law, Arabic and Chinese. He has lived in England, Egypt, Taiwan, France, Africa and Asia. He has traveled to over 100 countries. Working for the Times, he has worked in numerous capacities in numerous cities. He and wife Sheryl WuDunn won a Pulitzer for journalism and numerous other prizes. Kristof and WuDunn wrote "China Wakes: The Struggle for the Soul of a Rising Power" and "Thunder from the East: Portrait of a Rising Asia." Kristof's columns are noted for excellence, relevance, intelligence, compassion and wisdom. He was Times Bureau Chief in Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo. He wrote "Japanese economy at the millenium." He has an excellent understanding of environmental issues and human rights issues. He believes the USA intervention in Iraq is wrong but thinks international intervention there and elsewhere could be quite right if done through the United Nations.
