FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 6-25-2005

Mukhtaran Bibi is a victim of government-ordered gang rape and kidnapping in Pakistan and is a worker for improved education and governance in Pakistan. No one knows better than her just how corrupt and undemocratic the USA-backed regime in Pakistan is. She fought back and testified against her persecutors. She won and used her compensation money to start two schools in her village. She is also being helped by Mercy Corps and individuals. She speaks out against honor killings, rapes and acid attacks on women in Pakistan. She was invited to speak in the USA but was put under house arrest and was silenced. Her rape attackers were released and she was sent to a secret location to completely isolate her. She is not the one who threatens the decency of Pakistan, it is President Musharraf and President Bush who threaten the decency of Pakistan. They should both be driven out of office. We all need decent governance of the many, not the thuggish governance of the few.
