Jacqueline Moudeina is a lawyer in Chad where she pioneered human rights advocacy in that part of Africa. In 2002 she received the highest award of the human rights movement for international criminal justice work, the Martin Ennals Award. Her father, a doctor, was killed by the colonial government of Chad for refusing to join that corrupt government. 40+ years after her father was killed Jacqueline herself survived an assassination attempt by a new corrupt government. She continues to pursue cases against the most corrupt of today's Chad politicians and DDS agents. She was in temporary sanctuary in the USA and has now returned to Chad, her will undaunted by adversity. She began her legal career by taking pro bono civil rights cases for widowed mothers who are traditionally oppressed. The previous Chad president, Habr'e, was responsible for 40,000 political killings of civilians. Those who survived this violent purge of opponents gathered evidence against the DDS agents who orchestrated the torture and purge of opponents. For doing the right thing to fight political corruption, torture and murder, Jacqueline Moudeina has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
