Jennifer Washburn has written for The Atlantic Monthly, The Washington Post, The Nation, Newsday, The Washington Times, Mother Jones and the Journal of Commerce. Her new book is University, Inc.:The Corporate Corruption of Higher Education. She was a senior research associate at the Arms Trade Resource Center of the World Policy Institute at the New School for Social Research and a fellow at Open Society Institute. She is now a fellow at the New American Foundation. University, Inc.: details the ways that CEOs have reengineered American universities to become primarily the help mates of big businesses in their quest for short-term profits and pliable employees who will bend and break the law whenever requested to do so without regard for the welfare of low-paid workers and of a decimated environment. This warps educational goals and locks new knowledge out of the public domain and into the hands of often unlawful CEOs. Open-ended academic research is often throttled and degraded by these practices which also encourage the marketing of life-threatening prescription drugs. For blowing the whistle on privatization gone mad, Jennifer Washburn has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
