Zainab Salbi is the President and Founder of Women for Women International. She is an Iraqi native (Baghdad), is sensitized to the plight of women survivers of war and has been heading the Women for Women struggle since the age of 23. They are active in Bosnia/Herzgovina, Kosovo, Rwanda, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Columbia, Iraq and Democratic Republic of the Congo. She has been on/in Oprah, Lester Holt, MSNBC, NPR, PBS Newshour, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek and PBS NOW. She was honored by President Clinton and in numerous books, articles and awards. She has written and lectured extensively. Women for Women provides indigent women with skills and other resources so they can move from crisis/poverty to self-sufficiency. Zainab knows that we are one humanity with a responsibility to help each other regardless of what group we belong to. The more satisfied and productive women are, the more satisfied and productive the whole society is. For knowing what Iraqis and other troubled peoples need the most and for doing what she can to help them get it, Zainab Salbi has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
