FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 2-26-2005

Anthony D. Romero is Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union. Romero has a history of public interest activism and presided over the most successful membership drive in ACLU history. He is the first Latino to be Executive Director. He previously led rapid growth of the Ford Foundation's Human Rights and International Cooperation Program. He also did great work as a public interest lawyer. The ACLU is the most effective organization helping to protect the civil liberties of all Americans from misguided governments and misguided corporations. Since the USA is now suffering from an overdose of greedy control freaks in both governments and corporations, we are fortunate to have an effective ACLU to put the brakes on unconstitutional and deadly collusion between corporations, governments, intelligence agencies and militaries. For knowing what a real democracy with freedom and justice is all about and for working hard to make the USA a real democracy, Anthony D. Romero has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
