FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 2-19-2005

Senior Judge Joyce Hens Green is United States District Judge for the District of Columbia. She has a distinguished career in the judiciary from her appointment as a District Judge in 1979 to being a member of the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to being its Presiding Judge to being U.S. District Judge and now being Senior U.S. District Judge. Her ruling that the Guantanamo military tribunals for terrorism suspects are unconstitutional is near the apex of her career of furthering true justice for all. It is one more indicator that the Bush administration is unworthy of the presidency because it has abandoned the rights of prisoners to due process of law and has fundamentally violated the fairness due to all prisoners in a real democracy. It remains to be seen whether the U.S. Supreme Court will decide on the side of democracy and justice in these cases. Judge Joyce Hens Green has received numerous prestigious awards, all well-deserved.
