FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 1-15-2005

U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero of the Southern District of New York blocked the US government from conducting secret unconstitutional searches of internet and telephone records. This is a blow to those officials who use excessive government secrecy and wield excessive government power over all of us in the USA and the rest of the world. Specifically, parts of the Patriot Act violate the Fourth Ammendment to the Constitution and the First Ammendment. Judge Marrero was in the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Carter; was U.N. Ambassador under President Clinton and was program director of New York's Model Cities urban development project. He has done great work with the problems of the poor community. He has specialized in environmental law, real estate law and land-use law. For being on the side of the angels/decency/public service/poor/UN/environment/ACLU/anti-smoking/personal security, Judge Victor Marrero has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
