Joanne Mariner is a human rights attorney, columnist and deputy director of the America's Division of Human Rights Watch. She has been actively covering prison conditions, war crimes, other abuses, counter narcotics policies, super-maximum security prisons and many other human rights issues. She has conducted field investigations involving guerrilla abuses and political violence in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. She knows that much of the human rights abuses that occur in the world are ordered by, overseen by and encouraged by the top of the government of the USA and the top of many other national governments in the world. She knows that much of the human rights abuses are created by military actions ordered by various governments that create deaths, injuries and tortures of service personell and civilians alike. She knows that much abuse flows from the stifling of the rights of many peoples by many governments and corporations. Fascism and fake democracies are more numerous than real democracies which creates worldwide abuses.
