FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 12-11-2004

Rebecca Solnit is a writer, speaker and progressive political activist. She is the writer of a dozen books; her most recent is Hope in the Dark: Untold Histories, Wild Possiblities. She contributes articles to Orion Magazine, Tom Dispatch and Alternet. She writes about the histories of the world's progressive movements and today's struggles. She knows that we need to be organized enough to be able to combat the conservative and fundamentalist aspects of the current corporate government. We need to overthrow the mindset that drives us into aggressive destruction of environments. On the hopeful side, history is strewn with tiny causes ballooning into big positive effects. Progressive causes of today can become world-saving causes tomorrow. This must happen else the monster of gargantuan profit and gargantuan environmental destruction will doom us all. For educating all of us in the ways to survive the curse of dimwit domination and aggressive bloody war, Rebecca Solnit has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
