FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 11-27-2004

Peg Morton is a Quaker peace and decency activist from Eugene/Cottage Grove, Oregon. She has traveled extensively in Latin America and has seen the most despicable aspects of violence generated by misbegotten USA foreign policy/wars. She is a war tax resistor (National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee). She has been to jail many times for protesting the USA terrorist organization which used to be called School of the Americas. She has been active in solidarity organizations, educational outreach, movement for farm workers justice, the WTO demonstrations in Seattle, interfaith organizations and Guns and Greed. She knows that the USA government has participated numerous times in the slaughter of innocent people; the current slaughter in Iraq is only the latest. She knows that the USA should seek economic instruments that lead to the alleviation of poverty around the world instead of continuing its mass murder spree which is designed to perpetuate ghastly empire run by the greedy. For doing her best to bring peace and decency and the end of poverty to the USA to replace its addiction to empire, bombs, greed and torture, Peg Morton has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
