Geraldine L. Richmond is the Richard M. and Patricia H. Noyes Distinguished Professor, Department of Chemistry and Materials Science Institute of the University of Oregon. Geri Richmond is an inspiring mentor to young scientists in general and to young women scientists in particular. She has made outstanding contributions to scientific research using lasers to reveal the structure of water and crystals at surfaces. She won the 2004 Spiers Medal from Great Britain's Royal Society of Chemistry for her mentorship and outstanding contributions in two main areas of physical chemistry: the structure of water at surfaces and single crystal surfaces. She has published over 125 papers in leading journals. She has also won the 1996 American Chemistry Society's Francis P. Garvin Medal of the ACS, the 2001 Oregon Outstanding Scientist Award, the 2002 Spectrochemical Analysis Award of the ACS and many other awards. She has served on many of the most influential science advisory boards and has lectured extenstively around the globe. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciencer and the American Physical Society. For making huge contributions to science knowledge and for being a wonderful mentor to young women and men scientists, Geri Richmond has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
