FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 9-25-2004

Better

Gregory Thielmann was a director in the State Department's bureau of intelligence until he retired in September 2002. He became a whistleblower when he reported in July 2003 that the Bush adminstration didn't provide an accurate picture to the American people of the military threat posed by Iraq. He said most of the problem was the way that senior Bush officials misused intelligence information. Thielmann was in charge of analyzing the Iraq weapons threat for Powell's State Department intelligence bureau and was highly admired at the State Department. Thielmann knew that Iraq was not an imminent threat to either its neighbors or the USA because the intelligence showed it wasn't. For making it quite clear that Dick Cheney, Bush and other members of the Bush administration lied repeatedly about the reasons the Bush administration attacked Iraq, Gregory Thielmann has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
