Nelson, B.C. , Canada is the picturesque lakeside town in British Columbia near the US border which will have a bronze monument and festival to honor U.S. draft dodgers who fled to Canada to escape the atrocity called the Vietnam War. It will all come together in July 2006. It will also honor Canadian immigrants who fled from military barracks to escape the current atrocity called the war/occupation in Iraq. The festival will honor all who actually took a step towards peace. Nelson is a town of about 10,000 with a lively arts community, dedicated environmentalists and open-minded people who are fully conscious of the despicable acts that happen in wars, conquests and occupations. There will be a concert by artists who have been involved in the anti-war movement and speaches by historians and foreign policy critics. Michelle Mason will make a feature-length documentary on U.S. war resisters in Canada. For promoting peace not war and freedom not torture, Nelson, B.C. , Canada has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
