Mike Dombeck went from fishing guide, doctoral student, researcher, scholarly publications writer, scientific presentations, teaching, national fisheries program manager, BLM science advisor and special assistant and Acting Director, to Forest Service Chief. He left the Forest Service in 2001 because of the degraded and degrading nature of the Bush administration. Mike Dombeck is now Pioneer Professor of Global Environmental Management and University of Wisconsin System Fellow of Global Conservation. Dr. Dombeck received the 2001 Presidential Rank Award as a Distinguished Executive as chief of the USDA Forest Service. His most recent book, From Conquest to Conservation: Our Public Lands Legacy, is excellent. He is also an excellent speaker. For dedicating himself to protecting the waters and lands of the Earth and for disconnecting himself from the rabidly antienvironmental Bush administration, Mike Dombeck has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
