FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 8-14-2004

Kate Michelman was the President of NARAL Pro-Choice America for more than 18 years. She resigned in April 2004 to become President Emeritus and is working mightily on electing a pro-choice US President and on taking care of family responsibilities. She spearheaded the drive to make a woman's freedom of choice become a fundamental American liberty. Women need to have a full range of reproductive options. Her activism began in the civil rights movement. She helped NARAL Pro-Choice America to become a dominant force in electoral politics at the state and federal levels and helped it to become one of the top ten advocacy groups in America. For helping American women toward independence and liberty and for helping defeat gender bigots like George W. Bush, Kate Michelman has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
