FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 6-19-2004

Cynthia Cooper blew the whistle on the largest accounting fraud in history: WorldCom. She was vice president of intenal audit and was disgusted when she found out the magnitude of fraud involved. She told the audit committee of WordCom's board and the rest is history. She and her team had worked nights to secretly check Arthur Anderson's financial audits of WorldCom. They found a gaping hole in the books. Ms. Cooper is now vice president of internal audit at MCI. For having ethical standards of the highest quality together with a conscience of the highest quality and for blowing the whistle on fraud of the highest quantity, Cynthia Cooper has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
