FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 4-3-2004

Better

Richard Clarke is the former counterterrorism and cybersecurity coordinator for the Clinton and Bush administrations who delivered the latest severe blow to the credibility of the Bush admininstration. He makes clear that the top Bushies didn't understand how to properly fight terrorism; put the priority on an illegal war/occupation on Iraq which had no significant terrorist activities; neglected true homeland security in favor of energy dominion; deliberately misleading the public about the nature of the Iraq war and about other key government activities and failing to fix systemic problems in intelligence agencies and information sharing. Clarke's book, Against all Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror is opening new paths to learing how and why the Bushies got so far off the path of good governance that corruption and death became their primary goals. He knows the Bushies have made us less safe instead of more safe. For offering insights and truths about the inner workings of an American administration spinning dizzily toward disaster, Richard Clarke has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
