Olene Walker is the Governor of the State of Utah. She was the first woman Lieutenant Governor of Utah and became its first woman Governor November 2003. She became Governor when her predecessor left to work for President Bush. She was named 2003 Utahn of the Year by The Salt Lake Tribune. She is doing her best to keep radioactive waste from being shipped to Utah. She set in motion Utah's plan to improve and protect air quality in national parks in the West. She has a work plan to maximize human potential by increasing literacy and the quality of education; by reading with children; by a transition-to-adult-living program and by a self-help website. She has many other ideas to improve Utah's future. For knowing what Utah needs to improve its future and for formulating practical plans to help Utah move forward, Governor Olene Walker has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
