FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 1-10-2004

Dener Jose Giovanini founded RENCTAS, an organization which fights illegal trafficking in animals in Brazil. His successful model is spreading to the rest of the world. He is the co-winner of the United Nations Environment Program Sasakawa Environment Prize for 2003. He has received death threats from the immoral pirates who traffic in endangered species and who destroy fragile environments. RENCTAS welcomes tips from those who know the identity of any of these environmental criminals. RENCTAS has trained over 1600 government personell in how to find environmental criminals. They also help low income people who are involved in the ilicit trade to achieve a better way of earning money such as Brazil's National Zoo. RENCTAS now has a large membership of organizations and individuals. Preserving biodiversity through saving habitat is also key.
