Azar Nafisi is a professor at Johns Hopkins University, has written for numerous major magazines, has appeared on many TV and radio programs and has written two major well-received books. She won an Oxford Fellowship and taught at the University of Tehran and two other Iranian universities. She was expelled from the University of Tehran for refusing to wear the veil and emigrated to the USA in 1997. Her recent book is Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books which is about her underground study group and life under the rein of the Ayatollahs. She is director of the Dialogue Project at the Johns Hopkins University School of International Studies in Washington DC. She is thoroughly opposed to the anti-women, anti-real democracy and anti-freedom dogmas of the Ayatollahs. For rejecting religious patriarchy, for teaching the freedom benefits of a real democracy and for appearing in numerous media events with an excellent point of view, Azar Nafisi has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
