Shirin Ebadi is the Iranian human rights, women's rights, children's rights and peace activist who won the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize and the 2001 Rafto Prize in Norway (Human Rights). She was the first woman Judge in Iran but was dismissed when the patriarchal ruling class came to power. She opposes American-British imperialism which conquored, occupies and rules Iraq and Afghanistan. She became a human rights lawyer and a law professor at Tehran University. She has campaigned vigorously for human rights reform, women's rights reform, children's rights reform and reforms to help promote real democracy and eliminate violence and war. She was jailed for several weeks and barred from practising law for five years by a veiled court. She founded the Society for the Protection of the Rights of Children and helped to establish the Center for the Defense of Human Rights (legal aid for political prisoners). For helping to improve human rights, legal rights, women's rights, real democracy, and real peace in Iran and in the world, Shirin Ebadi has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
