FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 4-12-2003

Dr. Mae-Wan Ho is the co-founder and director of the Institute of Science in Society. ISIS initiated the "Open Letter from World Scientists" which promotes a moratorium on release of GMOs; promotes banning patents on life-forms/processes and promotes sustainable agriculture. She has a distinguished scientific record in life science/genetic research and has authored numerous books, papers and other publications. Before "retiring", she was Reader in Biology, geneticist and biophysicist at the Open University, UK. Her prize-winning book is Genetic Engineering, Dream or Nightmare?: The Brave New Word of Bad Science and Big Business. In the 1980s Mae-Wan Ho was at the forefront of the development of modern genetics. Today she is at the forefront of warning us all of the perils and pitfalls of Genetically Modified Organisms which may, in the end, be even more damaging than "modern" warfare.
