Carla Garcia Zendejas is a Mexican attorney who worked with grassroots organizations in Tijuana to draft a new law that gives citizens the right to know the content of factory emissions and the right to enforce the Municipal Environmental Code that they created. A Toxic Pollution Release Registry was also created and a recent federal amendment requires companies to comply with the Registry. She works with USA and Mexican NGOs on cross-border issues like water monitoring, sustainable power plants, law reform and public participation. She works with E-LAW on outreach and capacity building throughout Latin America. For helping create environmental awareness and cleanup in Mexico, the rest of Latin America and in the USA, Carla Garcia Zendejas has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
