FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 1-18-2003

Jennifer Grandholm is the new Governor of the State of Michigan who was inaugurated January 1. She is the first female governor of Michigan. Her first executive orders and directives prohibit state government from doing business with any entity that abuses its workers, that abuses its environment or that doesn't have the highest levels of ethics and business integrity. She wants to make sure that there will be no abuse of workers, people, environments or laws by any management that does business with the state. She also wants to make sure that all state employees act in an ethical manner. She has a Blueprint to Secure Michigan's Future (79 pages), an encouragement of whistleblowers and a prohibition of soliciting/accepting campaign funds on state property. For having an excellent blueprint for creating cleaner and more democratic government in the State of Michigan, Governor Jennifer Grandholm has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
