FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 11-23-2002

Better

Marcia Angell, M.D. is a Senior Lecturer on Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is the former editor in chief of the New England Journal of Medicine. She favors a single-payer system of health care similar to what exists in most advanced democracies. Such a system would cover everyone needing health care and at a cost equal to or less than the current Private-Insurance-Addicted US system which adequately covers only a bare majority of US residents. Our current PIA system has become so expensive and so unresponsive to low income people's needs because it shunts high profits to so many different entities, most of which are extremely corrupt/inefficient and many of them are primarily criminal rackets. Dr. Angell writes frequently in professional journals and in the popular media. Her book, Science on Trial: ... was published in 1996 and she is a coauthor of the first three editions of the textbook, Basic Pathology. She also contributed to books dealing with ethical matters. Time magazine named her one of the 25 most influential Americans in 1997. For pushing energetically for the best solution to the USA's deadliest domestic defect, Dr. Marcia Angell has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
