Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is the new President-elect of Brazil, the first regular worker to be elected to Brazil's presidency. He rose through the ranks to create and expand the Worker's Party. He will be the most popular and most democratic president Brazil has ever had. The Worker's Party and other left-leaning groups in Brazil now control over 100 municipalities including most large urban areas. All new spending in Porto Alegra and other cities governed by the Worker's Party is decided by citizens' assemblies. The amount of popular participation in government is outstanding. When Lula speaks in rallies everyone listens and smiles. For bringing to power the most real democracy Brazil has ever had, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
