Hanan Ashrawi is an excellent Palestinian leader, negotiator, peace activist, democracy activist, speaker, TV personality and writer (This side of Peace). She also has a doctorate in medieval literature which helps her cross cultural boundaries. She understands very well that Palestinians are victims of oppression from Israel and from some other nations. Her view of societies was influenced, while studying in the US, by the activism of the Women's Movement. When she returned to her home in the Middle East she became an academic and became active in the Palestinian Cause and in related legal aid and human rights issues. Her activism escalated until she was given high political positions by Yassir Arafat. She later resigned in protest against political corruption and founded MIFTAH to increase democracy, dialog, information, analysis, human rights, peace and the overall Palestinian cause. For working mightily to achieve a truly democratic, peaceful and unoccupied Palestinian State, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
