Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim is an internationally-known sociologist who advocates for human rights and democracy in Egypt. He was sentenced to seven years in prison by the State Security Court for trying to monitor elections in Egypt. In truth, he is guilty only of trying to increase democracy in Egypt, an admirable goal in any society. Saad is a professor of sociology at the American University of Cairo and the Founder/Chairman of the Board of the Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies. Professor Ibrahim is an Egyptian and American citizen. The League of Egyptian Women Voters is affiliated with the Ibn Khaldun Center. For working to promote and advance democratic practices in Egypt, human rights in Egypt, social development in Egypt, religious freedom in Egypt and women's rights in Egypt, Saad Eddin Ibrahim has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
