Thomas L. Friedman has a distinguished record in journalism as a reporter, Beirut bureau chief for the New York Times, Times Israel bureau chief, Times chief diplomatic Washington correspondent and Times foreign affairs columnist. He won two Pulitzer Prizes while working for the New York Times. He has written several excellent nonfiction books. He has traveled and worked extensively in the Middle East and is able to understand the merits and demerits of all sides in the conflicts there. He knows what needs to be done if peace is ever to be achieved in the Middle East. He worked for the London Bureau of United Press International and was the Beirut correspondent from 1979 to 1981. His 1983 Pulitzer Prize was for reporting from Lebanon and his 1988 Pulitzer Prize was for reporting from Israel. He has also received numerous Awards. His most recent book is The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization. For understanding the problems of the Middle East and their necessary solutions and for doing his best to make the US public aware of Middle East problems/solutions, Thomas L.
