Victoria Jamali is an environmental activist at the University of Tehran in Iran who, with her colleagues, is launching Iran's first environmental law program. She also co-founded with Mahlagh Mallah the Women's Society Against Environmental Pollution in Iran, a very active non-governmental organization. Victoria is director of environmental research at the University of Tehran. She is an Iranian pioneer on both gender and environmental issues. She pretty much started the citizen environmental movement in Iran. Air pollution in Iran is very bad and water pollution in Iran is widespread. Many endemic species are in trouble. Practical and effective environmental regulation was almost nonexistant. For being a tireless activist for environmental and gender justice in Iran and for helping to increase effective environmental regulation, Victoria Jamali has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
