Congressman Jim McDermott of Washington's 7th district has
a 93% environmental score for 2000, according to the League of
Conservation Voters. He is a member of the Congressional
Committee on Budget and a member of the House Committee on Ways
and Means and a member of its Subcommittees on Health and on
Human Resources. He is Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on
India and Indian-Americans, Co-Chair of the Congressiona Task
Force on International HIV/AIDS and Co-Chair of the Congressional
Africa Trade and Investment Caucus. He has an impressive
progressive record on health care (he developed the Washington
Basic Health Plan and is co-author of Single Payer health care
legislation), the environment, education, energy, Medicare,
housing, salmon, Social Security, transportation, women's issues,
medical research, family planning, affirmative action, arts &
humanities, banking, campaign finance reform, civil liberties,
civil rights, foreign policy, defense spending and on many other
