Hafsat Abiola's parents died at the hands of Nigeria's then
military government. Hafsat founded the Kudirat Initiative for
Democracy (KIND). She was president of the International African
Students Association for two years. She is a Fetzer Fellow and
sits on the board of the State of the World Forum. Hafsat works
on women and youth programs, conflict prevention and resolution,
supporting global citizens in the new millenium, free press
issues, micro radios, tel-centers, rural telecommunications
projects, Friends of Nigeria Network, human rights violations and
environmental destruction issues. For working mightily to help
create democracy and a government free of corruption, violence,
torture and destruction in Nigeria, Hafsat Abiola has been named
