National Security Archive has a large database of US
governmental secrets which have been declassified and accessed
under the Freedom of Information Act. The material is at the
George Washington University's Gelman Library and is the world's
largest non governmental library of declassified documents. The
material can be accessed on the internet and/or in other forms.
Of course, there are no new secrets but the nature of the new
secrets can be inferred from the voluminous data of the old
secrets. A recent addition to the library is: Foreign Relations
of the United States 1964-68 Volume XXVI which includes
documentation on the assassination of numerous Indonesian
communists and suspected communists with financial and other help
from the US Government. If you are interested in the machinations
of the US government against other governments and against other
peoples, a lot of information can be found in the National
Security Archive. Thomas S. Blanton is Executive Director of the
National Security Archive and there are numerous other Staff and
Fellows. For revealing the historical facts about how nasty
contemporary governments can be, National Security Archive has
been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for
more information.
