FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 7-21-2001

Camelia Entekhabi-Fard is an Iranian Journalist who was arrested in July 99 and released in October 99. She worked for the now banned Zan newspaper in Iran and for other reformist newspapers in Iran. She covered women's issues and politics. She has an article (Behind the Veil) in the July/August 2001 issue of Mother Jones magazine. She traveled to the US in 1999 where she participated in several press meetings on the East Coast. She was arrested shortly after returning from her trip and was not allowed any visits from family or defense counsel during her incarceration. She was released because of international pressure and because the government began to open itself to international communication and cooperation. For doing what she can to help the Iranian government treat the women, children and men of Iran in a more respectful and free fashion, Camelia Entekhabi-Fard has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
