FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 6-30-2001

Tom Daschle is the new US Senate majority leader. He is using his leadership position to further an enlightened agenda: Patients' Bill of Rights, education reform, paying down the debt, improving Social Security and Medicare, improving health care, making taxes fairer, helping family farmers, improving child care, improving the environment, reducing violence, reducing drug use, supporting tribal governments and tribal people, helping small businesses, and helping make a more just and less brutal society. For doing the right thing at the right time to blunt the excesses of the far right and to increase true progress in government and in the whole society, Tom Daschle has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
