Linda Chavez-Thompson became the highest-ranking woman in
the US labor movement in 1995. She is Executive Vice President of
the AFL-CIO. She led an organizing drive in Texas that brought in
5000 new members and helped secure passage of a collective
bargaining law for public employees in New Mexico. She helped
expand labor rights for women and for all workers. She helped
build stronger ties with working people in other countries. She
strives to make the global economy work better for working
families. She strives to make multinational corporations more
accountable for all the results of their policies and actions.
She knows that women are key to building a fairer and more humane
world that is sustainable into the far future. She advanced
legislative, political action, grievance and educational
procedures. She serves on several prestigious boards and
committees. For helping to enhance the well-being of all workers
in the past, now and into the future, Linda Chavez-Thompson has
