He is a member of the House Science Committee and of two of its Subcommittees: Technology & Space and Aeronautics. He is a member of the House Small Business Committee. He also serves as Democratic Deputy Regional Whip (western US), as Democratic freshman class vice president and as co-chair of the Renewable Energy Caucus. In addition to his sterling environmental record, he has an impressive progressive record on education, affordable health care, science and technology, civil rights, human rights, peace, guns, nuclear weapons, children's issues, safety, transportation, inclusive presidential debates, women's issues, campaign finance reform, international relations, affordable drugs, veterans, affordable housing, police brutality, affordable health insurance, affordable prescription drugs, Medicare, Social Security, consumers, violence prevention, fair taxes, free speech, foreign policy, hate crimes, community and on many other issues.
